LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Tarzan ban

Dear Editor: It’s nice to find out that this accusation is a calumny, but did any of these people -- Jack Smith or Ray Loynd of the L.A. Times -- ever retract their accusation? And if not, why not? (“Did the Downey Library Really Ban Tarzan?”, 3/26/15)

At least their parent paper had the decency to state the facts in their articles of 12/28/61 and 1/6/62 -- too bad Jack and Ray never took the time to read them.

But that would have upset the narrative of how this upstart community out in the sticks was a cesspool of prejudice, unlike their cosmopolitan betters at Times-Mirror Square.
