Letter to the Editor: Soft on crime
Dear Editor:
One of our elected county officials has come up with a novel approach to reduce crime — just make it disappear.
George Gascon is the new Los Angeles County District Attorney. Since he took office, he has made many policy changes to the criminal justice system. Some good and some bad. The bad ones disturb me.
For example, his new policies eliminate the three-strikes law, sentence enhancements and gang enhancements. They also call for the elimination of many misdemeanors including public intoxication, criminal threats and resisting arrest. His policies also eliminate cash bail for certain misdemeanors.
We all should beware of the probability of more crime in our area.
