Letter to the Editor: Seniors need a discount on internet service

Dear Editor:

With the price of cable going up and up, there’s no wonder senior citizens on a fixed income opt out of cable.

What’s disturbing is during the Covid-19 pandemic, news outlets mentioned how senior citizens lacked computer technology experience when signing up for a vaccine. I signed up five senior citizens for the vaccine and they didn’t even have the internet.

I realize the Downey Library has free internet service but I do not expect seniors to travel for internet service. During these times I would not want my parents leaving the house for internet service; it’s safer for them to use internet from the comfort of their home.

Downey City Council, find it within your heart to revise the contract between Spectrum and the City of Downey to demand them to give our Downey senior citizens a major discount.

Spectrum offers a lower price if you sign up with the internet and phone service, but seniors don’t need another phone to ring all day with unwanted telemarketing calls, and after the offer expires the price goes up and up; they just need an internet discount.

With the City Council’s help, seniors can work from the privacy of their home and keep up with demanding technology.
