Letter to the Editor: School bond's high cost
Dear Editor:
The proposed $504 million bond for Downey Unified School District is outrageous. The ballot language is deceptive and misleading. Where is the list of specific projects to be funded? Where is the tax information statement?
In addition to the Downey Unified proposal, voters in Downey will be asked to approve a new bond for Cerritos College in the amount of $425 million.
Will Downey voters really approve bonds with an aggregate amount face value of $929 million on Nov. 8 ? The repayment with interest will be far in excess of $1.5 billion.
I urge you to vote no on both the Downey and Cerritos College bond proposals. Demand genuine school finance reform and an honest ballot proposal.
Don’t be fooled by the politicians. Vote no in November.
