Letter to the Editor: Professional police officers

Dear Editor:

Just a little shout out to the Downey police officers who responded the the domestic disturbance at Apollo Park [Sunday] at 1 pm from a grateful grandparent. Thank you for the dignity you showed and the hope you restored.

Having to deal with child custody cases is not to be taken lightly and is very much like a cancer that affects the family from the very young up to the grandparents. I have personally observed some pretty callus responses from officers, leaving the victims feeling hopeless and desperate, angry, and vengeful and not even following through with a report. My last incident was followed by a trip to urgent care.

I think not making the child's safety the first priority is a crime in itself. Lakewood could take a lesson from these Downey police officers.
