Letter to the Editor: Lack of Asian options at farmers market
Dear Editor:
Through your newspaper, I would like to request your help in asking the farmers who used to sell Chinese/ Vietnamese/Filipino vegetables in the Downey Farmers Market to come back.
What we have now for sale are duplications of goods and are available in nearby groceries.
We are paging Vietnamese farmers selling their products such as Chinese eggplants, bitter melons, water spinach (kangkong); sweet potato tops (kamote), mini Chinese apples and other Chinese-Filipino vegetables and fruits. We Asians are minorities here in Downey and we patronize the Farmers Market more so when we have some of our native products available.
To the management of the Downey Farmers Market and the Downey Council, please help entice and facilitate the coming back of the farmers that sell Vietnamese / Filipino vegetables and fruits. We loved what they used to sell and we ask them to please come back. Thank you.
