Letter to the Editor: Democratic hypocrisy

Dear Editor:

I want to comment on a couple of items in the Feb. 19 edition on the Opinion page.

First, you printed a long piece by Marge Baker of People for the American Way. It is not stated that this is an adjutant and a part and parcel of the Democratic party and the article completely ignores history of the Democrats in blocking Republican presidents’ nominees in national election years. As Sen. Obama filibustered the nomination of Judge Alito unsuccessfully and now says he regrets it.

Then Anita Rivero wrote one of her treatises criticizing Senate majority leader McConnell’s plan to hold up hearings until a new president takes office.

Yes, Anita, the President proposes and the Senate disposes. The old adage “the shoe is on the other foot” applies. Example is Sen. Chuck Schumer under Bush’s presidency spoke passionately to do the same as McConnell is now saying in differing the nomination until after the presidential election and only last week the same Chuck Schumer reversed himself completely and wants to allow this President his choice. Vice President Biden is one record of the same flip flop.

Another adage is “what is good for the goose is good for the gander.”
