Letter to the Editor: Council members who can't vote

Dear Editor:

I would like to know why we have council members who cannot vote?

Every time there is an important concern in the city, there is always at least one council member who cannot vote. Our elected officials seem to have too much personal interest in our city.

Our mayor, Rick Rodriguez, has been missing for months. I understand he is very old and has health issues. Now that he has returned, the mayor was not able to vote on the housing issue.

This is important to my family and myself. If he was able to vote, the city council could have had the four votes needed to pass an emergency housing measure.

Another example of unjust elected officials running for office to elevate their status and increase their own financial gain.

Dear Editor:

It’s a shame we have city council members who don’t see the importance of representing their constituents.

Mayor Rick Rodriguez was out on medical leave for the entire summer and refused to resign. This was a disservice to all residents of Downey, particularly in his district.

Councilman Alex Saab, a good friend of the mayor, seems to have checked out. Does he have the best interests of Downey residents at heart or will he continue to be on cruise control until his term is finished next year?

Councilman Sean Ashton is the only council member who has shown an active interest in improving the lives of Downey residents.
