Letter to the Editor: Animals are not property

Dear Editor:

There was a time in history when people were considered property. Their status as property was enforced by violence. Thanks to the brave actions of many, humans are no longer considered property in the 21st Century.

I am very disappointed that animals are still considered property in modern day America.
This is unacceptable because it allows industries to mutilate, enslave and torture them. Every
living creature deserves the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Freedom to live should be a basic birthright to every sentient being, it shouldn’t matter that you have four legs, and a snout, or a beak, or a trunk. Life is a gift from God, who are we to deny someone of their life?
