Kindergarten sign-ups now underway

DOWNEY – Kindergarten registration for children who plan to enter a DUSD school in September is now underway. Registration packets are available at school offices. To be eligible for kindergarten, students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2015. Transitional kindergarten is available for kids who turn 5 between Sept. 2 and Dec. 2, 2015.

Transitional kindergarten is the first of a two-year kindergarten program and is offered at Alameda, Gallatin, Lewis, Price, Rio Hondo, Rio San Gabriel, Unsworth, Ward and Williams elementary schools.

Proof of age must be presented at time of registration, along with proof of residency and evidence that their child received a physical examination after March 1, 2015.

Parents must also bring their child’s immunization record and ensure that their child is current on immunizations, including 5 DTap (four doses meet requirement if at least one was given on or after the 4th birthday), 3 Hepatitis B, 2 MMR (one dose on or after first birthday, if not, a third dose is required).
