Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center named one of the nation’s top maternity hospitals

DOWNEY — Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center has been recognized as one of the nation’s top maternity hospitals by Money magazine and The Leapfrog Group. Fewer than 1 out of every 8 hospitals analyzed received this award.

To be included in the list, eligible hospitals had to carry an “A” or “B” letter grade on the spring 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assessment. Additionally, recognized hospitals were required to meet six other criteria specific to providing maternity care. They included early elective deliveries, cesarean birth, episiotomy, deep vein thrombosis prophylaxis, high-risk deliveries and bilirubin screening.

“It is our honor and privilege to provide exceptional maternity care to expectant families in southeast Los Angeles county," said Gregg Durkee, interim senior vice president and area manager, Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center. “This recognition is evidence of the diligent work of our physicians and staff who are dedicated to providing each one of our patients with best possible care experience.”

“Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center physicians use the most current and innovative practices which result in a safe and nurturing environment for expectant parents,” said JT Lee, MD, area medical director, Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center. “We’re honored to be recognized as one of the best hospitals in the nation to receive maternity care.”

Money magazine and The Leapfrog Group analyzed maternity care data submitted to the 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which was completed by more than 2,200 hospitals in 2022.
