Kaiser hospital donates 1,230 Thanksgiving meals

DOWNEY — This Thanksgiving, more than 1,230 families enjoyed a holiday meal thanks to physicians and staff from Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center.

For the past 10 years, the Downey hospital has partnered with Canning Hunger -- and organization that provides holiday meals to families in need -- for the Boxes of Love Holiday Food Project.

The “boxes of love,” which are filled with everything needed to make a holiday meal, were distributed to:

  • City of Bellflower Volunteer Center

  • Kaiser Permanente Watts Counseling and Learning Center

  • Kaiser Permanente Educational Outreach Program

  • Elizabeth Learning Center pre-K-12 school in Cudahy

  • Henry T. Gage Middle School in Huntington Park

  • Nimitz Middle School in Huntington Park

  • Downey USD’s TLC Family Resource Center

This project is part of Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center’s community volunteer program.

“Kaiser Permanente strives to be a partner in total health, collaborating with people to help them thrive and creating communities that are among the healthiest in the nation,” hospital officials said.
