Julie Garcia takes over as Gangs Out of Downey president

DOWNEY -- Julie Garcia was sworn-in as president of Gangs Out of Downey (GOOD) on Tuesday, the non-profit group that works to combat gangs in the Downey community. 

Garcia is pictured with Mayor Pro Tem Rick Rodriguez and immediate past president Mark McDaniel. 

In her first meeting as president, Garcia announced several events GOOD is either hosting or participating in:

■ a backpack giveaway at Golden Park on Aug. 4;
■ National Night Out at City Hall on Aug. 7;
■ the Ricky Galvez Golf Tournament at Rio Hondo Golf Club on Oct. 26;
■ the GOOD luncheon at the Rio Hondo Event Center on March 14, 2019;
■ the Ricky Galvez scholarship gala at Rio Hondo Event Center on May 3, 2019;
■ and Kids & Cops Day at Furman Park on April 20, 2019.
