Josephine Shasha

Josephine, (Jo, Josie, G-Ma), Marie Patronite Shasha passed away on December 12 at 7:11 PM in Long Beach CA. She was born in Cleveland Ohio in 1925, and moved to California in 1943, the day after she graduated from high school. She met her husband, Anthony, (Tony), Shasha of 54 years in 1944. They married in 1945. He preceded her in death in 1999. She lived in Downey CA for 56 years.

She worked for Safeway Stores from 1948 until 1980. She was the first woman to whom they offered the position of store manager! (she did not accept).

Loved by all she knew for her kindness and beautiful nature; she was an amazing artist and cook. She loved to travel, which she did in her later years as her “Tony” would not fly!

She had 5 children, Richard, (married to Sue), Marilyn, (married to George Hernandez), Kathy, (married to Jim Davis), Joe, (married to Ana) and Anthony Jr, (married to Debbie), She has 8 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
