Jean Palmer, 88, passes away at home

DOWNEY - Jean Saxton Palmer, a former Army nurse and longtime school teacher, passed away peacefully Jan. 3 at home after a long struggle with cancer. She was 88.She was born Sept. 12, 1922 in Boise, Idaho. She is survived by her husband, Richard; daughter, Eileen Martin; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson. After serving as an Army nurse during World War II, she worked for 30 years in the Los Angeles Unified School District as a school nurse and teacher. She was an active member of the Women's Overseas League and served several years in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at her former residence in Downey on March 18 at 1 p.m.
