Jean “Mimi” Sovine
May 2, 1930 - February 19, 2025
Our beloved Jean “Mimi” Sovine passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025. She had been a resident of Downey, CA, for 36 years. Mamie Jean Lilly was born May 2, 1930, in Hinton, WV, on the family farm (Trump-Lilly Farm, now a historical site). She was the daughter of the late Aden J. and Eden Donohoe Lilly. She was the youngest of 5 children who preceded her in death. She married Charles Sovine in 1957 and drove cross-country from West Virginia to California where they settled down to raise their children, Tammi and Bill. After retiring from her career of 33 years with PT&T (now AT&T), she and Charles enjoyed their retirement years in a split log cabin home they designed along the Greenbrier River in Hinton, WV. They’ve lived in their daughter’s home in Downey for the past 8 years.
Mimi enjoyed traveling, teasing, celebrating anything, cooking, gardening and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had that country charm and southern drawl that drew people to her. Her family credits her with their love of family traditions and sense of adventure. She lived big and loved generously. She will be missed so much by all who knew her and her energetic spirit.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Sovine of Downey; her daughter, Tammi Humbert and husband Will of Downey; her grandson Ryan Humbert, wife Kimie, and great-grandchildren Asher and Rylie of Downey; and granddaughter Magen Humbert Meyers and husband Cedric of Lancaster, CA. She is also survived by granddaughters Nicole Sovine of Las Vegas, NV; and Lauren Sovine and of Austin, TX; both children of her son, Bill Sovine, who passed away in 2017.
Her funeral service will be held at Greenbrier Burial Park in Hinton, WV, presided over by her nephews, Pastors Robert and Ronald Kinzel.
