Hospital honors its auxiliary

DOWNEY - Downey Regional Medical Center honored the members of its auxiliary with a special luncheon April 29. More than 70 guests were in attendance, including auxiliary members, employees and hospital management.In remarks made during the luncheon, hospital CEO Ken Strople noted that 101 auxiliary members contributed 21,286 hours of service from April 2008 through March 2009. "According to the Independent Sector, the value of a volunteer is equal to $19.51 per hour, which means that this group donated $415,290 worth of service," Strople said. Auxiliary volunteers work in 19 departments throughout the hospital and also staff the gift shop.
