Headstones stolen from cemetery

DOWNEY - Two more brass headstones were plundered from the Downey Cemetery last month, bringing the total number of headstone thefts to at least six in the past year.The latest thefts occurred between March 1-22. Downey Police became aware of the thefts Monday. Four bronze headstones belonging to U.S. veterans were stolen from the cemetery last year, prompting a $10,000 reward from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Police believe the headstones were stolen to be sold as scrap metal. No arrests were made in that case.
