Gilbert Livas, forced out as city manager, could have building named after him

DOWNEY — The Downey City Council on Tuesday will consider naming a public building after city manager Gilbert Livas, who is being forced to retire effective July 1.

The suggestion was placed on the agenda by Councilman Mario Trujillo.

The Downey Patriot reported in December that the council was prepared to fire Livas before he accepted an early retirement compensation package. His last day in Downey is June 30.

Livas is not the only administration staff member to leave Downey City Hall: deputy city manager Aldo Schindler left last week for a new position in Moreno Valley, and city attorney Yvette Abich Garcia leaves next month for Redlands.

Assistant city manager John Oskoui is currently on paid administrative leave for reasons that have not been disclosed.
