Giggy Perez-Saab easily re-elected to school board
DOWNEY – Incumbent Giggy Perez-Saab soundly defeated challenger Juan Martinez in Tuesday’s Downey Unified School District board election, securing 80.42% of the vote, according to unofficial results.
Perez-Saab, first elected to the board in 2020, has been credited with steering significant advancements within the district over her first term. Her re-election allows her to continue her focus on educational improvement and support for the district’s teachers and staff.
In a statement, Perez-Saab expressed gratitude to the community for their support.
“I would like to thank the residents of Downey for giving me the honor to continue to serve our kids and community as a DUSD School Board member for four more years,” Perez-Saab said. “As a parent of DUSD students, I am excited for our future. We are blessed to live in a community that values having our own school district, which allows us to have the very best teachers, staff, and administration available.”
Perez-Saab emphasized her commitment to working closely with her fellow board members to prioritize student needs and ensure that the district provides the resources necessary for their success.
“My commitment is to keep working hard for all our kids and to be responsive to our teachers, support staff, and parents,” she added. “Our local schools have the most impact on our kids’ daily lives, and I will continue to be accessible to everyone.”
Martinez’s defeat marks his latest unsuccessful bid for public office.
