DOWNEY – Downey Mayor Claudia M. Frometa has been elected treasurer of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO), a non-partisan leadership group of the nation’s more than 6,800 Latino elected and appointed officials.

Frometa’s term is through 2021-22.

Her executive board includes president Ricardo Lara, California insurance commissioner; first vice president Lubby Navarro, a Miami-Dade County school board member; second vice president E. Junior Maldonado, the Hudson County Clerk; and secretary Gustavo Rivera, a New York state senator.

Pico Rivera council member Gustavo Camacho was elected to a second term on the NALEO board for 2024.

“NALEO would like to congratulate all new members and thank our retiring members for their exceptional service to the organization,” the group said in a statement.

NALEO created the NALEO Educational Fund in 1981, the nation’s leading non-profit, non-partisan organization that facilitates full Latino participation in the American political process, from citizenship to public service.
