Friends of Library auctioning Victorian dollhouse

DOWNEY - In addition to their regular monthly silent auction, the Friends of the Downey City Library are holding a special silent auction featuring a Victorian dollhouse complete with furniture, furnishings, and accessories.

The dollhouse was made by library patron Ana Lopez for her late mother Maria Concepcion, known by family and friends as “Conchita.” Conchita was fond of miniatures and delighted in the details, remembering her childhood fascination with a neighbor’s miniature dollhouse.

Upon hearing that memory, Lopez embarked on a year-long labor of love to create a dollhouse for her mother.  Unfortunately, by the time she completed the project, Conchita’s health had declined, and she was no longer able to enjoy the dollhouse.

Although Lopez invested approximately $1,000 in material, furniture, furnishings, and accessories, the opening bid has been set at $550, with new bids increased by a minimum of $20.

The auction period will last through Dec. 10. To place a bid, please call or text FODCL Bookstore Director Ramie Johnson at (562) 964-4007.
