Free legal clinics resume Saturday in Downey

DOWNEY — Ferias Legales, a Downey-based non-profit organization, is resuming its monthly community legal clinics this Saturday, Aug. 19, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Barbara J. Riley Community and Senior Center.

Various licensed attorneys will be providing free legal consultations in the areas of Immigration Law, Tenants Rights, Family Law, Criminal Defense, Small Claims, Personal Injury, and Civil Rights.

People wishing to become citizens are encouraged to attend, as immigration attorneys will be screening for eligibility, advising on the naturalization application, and assisting with fee waiver applications.

Ferias Legales (Spanish for "Legal Fairs") focuses on delivering free services to underserved communities while increasing diversity in the legal field and working towards the empowerment of women.

Appointments are not necessary but are encouraged. Community members are also encouraged to bring all legal documents that may help attorneys better assess the legal matter.

Covid protocols and recommendations will be followed and anyone feeling symptoms is asked to stay home. Virtual consultations will be offered as well.
