Free formal dresses for girls

DOWNEY – High school girls who cannot afford a gown for winter formal can receive a formal dress, shoes and jewelry at no cost, courtesy of the Assistance League of Downey. “Winter formals are fast approaching and we want you to look your best,” the Assistance League said.

The giveaways will take place Jan. 3 and Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Casa de Parley Johnson House, 7749 Florence Ave.

Donations of new and gently-used dresses are also accepted and can be dropped off at the Second Tyme Around thrift shop on Downey Avenue in downtown Downey.
