Food drive at credit union

DOWNEY - Downey Federal Credit Union is collecting food for needy families in Downey.Collection bins for non-perishable food are located in the main branch at 8237 3rd St. and in the express service office at Downey Regional Medical Center. Some of the food being sought includes canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, tuna fish, canned meat, canned soup, canned meals, non-cook items and fruit juices. Donations will be donated to Downey PTA HELPS (Health, Education and Local Pantry Service). The credit union is also accepting monetary donations for PTA HELPS. The credit union will also donate Thanksgiving baskets to families whose children attend their adopted schools, Ward and Lewis Elementary School. "Downey Federal Credit Union supports the efforts of the Downey Unified School District and the PTA, and wants to lend a helping hand to families in need," said Barbara Lamberth, president and CEO of Downey Federal. "As an established business in Downey, the credit union is pleased to help families to grow and prosper in the community."
