Flimsy excuse

Dear Editor: A clue to the removal of City Clerk Kathleen Midstokke by the City Council in a special, closed-session meeting can be found in "Former Candidates Wrap-Up Campaign Finances" (The Downey Patriot, 2/17/11) Not properly reporting campaign contributions by Councilman Fernando Vasquez was described by him as "misinterpreation of campaign finance regulations." This flimsy excuse apparently is OK with interim city clerk Joyce Doyle, but was not OK with Midstokke, who is known for following the law. It is increasingly clear that the city of Downey is headed down the wrong path and could become more like the city of Bell. --Marion Russell, Downey
