Financial Partners gives $7,700 to send students to science camp

DOWNEY — Financial Partners Credit Union donated $7,700 to the Downey Foundation for Educational Opportunities in support of their science camp that will send nearly 400 Downey Unified fifth grade students to a three-day, two-night learning experience in our local mountains.

Taking place next month, these student campers from Gauldin, Old River, Price and Unsworth elementary schools will be traveling to take part in an educational outdoor learning experience. Funding provided through FPCU’s donation will pay for bus transportation to and from camp, as well as camp tuition for eight students who were selected through a raffle.

Science Camp is a new program being offered in Downey Unified for fifth grade students through a DFEO initiative to expose students to opportunities that will expand their independence and give them a learning experience they cannot get within the walls of their classrooms.

Supporting DFEO in other capacities as well, FPCU was also a Platinum Sponsor for the DFEO’s VIP Experience that took place during the Downey vs. Warren football game on Oct. 19.
