Energy Resource Center
On Thursday, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) held a meeting at the Energy Resource Center in Downey with a group of the 40th Congressional District’s city council members and city managers. She called the meeting so that the participants could exchange ideas about how to increase civic engagement and voter turnout in local communities. “I’m deeply concerned about the lack of civic participation in our district and across the country,” said Roybal-Allard. “In last year’s midterm elections, nationwide voter turnout was at its lowest level since World War II. We must educate voting-eligible individuals about why their vote counts, and the consequences their failure to vote can have on our government and our democracy. We can organize voter education forums, meetings with community groups, and discussions with high school students to spread the word about the importance of civic participation, including the power of the vote. I hope my fellow local political leaders will join me in this important work.”
