Elvis act to kick-off summer concertsBody: DOWNEY - Downey residents can expect to get "all shook up" when the city's summer concert series kicks off Wednesday at Furman Park with a tribute to the King of Rock and Roll. Elvis Presley impersonator Scot Bruce will take the stage at 7 p.m. The concert is free and residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. The Downey Rose Float Association will be selling food and drinks as they raise money for their annual entry in the Tournament of Roses Parade. Originally from the Pacific Northwest where he was a radio personality and a drummer, Bruce has lived in Los Angeles since 1990. While pursuing a music and acting career, he began a 1950s-era Elvis show as a way to survive the lean times. The result was a surprise to Bruce: a part-time gig to supplement his income blossomed into a full-time career. Bruce's uncanny resemblance to the young "King" and his ability to sing, strum a guitar and swivel his hips has taken him across the U.S. and around the world. As Elvis, Bruce has appeared in music videos with Faith Hill and Sheryl Crow, and has been heard as the "resident Elvis" on the Mark and Brian morning radio show. Bruce has also enjoyed recurring roles on the hit soap operas "Days of our Lives" and "The Bold and the Beautiful," and has filmed commercials for Pizza Hut and the California Lottery. He has appeared in several productions of "Idols of the King," including runs at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, the Barter Theatre in Virginia, and at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery. Bruce recently performed with the Jordanaires (Elvis' original backup singers) and was hired by E! Entertainment for their "True Hollywood Story" on Elvis. Bruce performs regularly at Disneyland and tours with the "Legends of Rock & Roll - Buddy, Roy and Elvis." Aside from portraying Elvis, Bruce is a songwriter and performs an acoustic guitar/harmonica solo act in local pubs. He also plays the drums with L.A.-based rock-a-billy bands. Wednesday's performance will be Bruce's first appearance at Downey's Twilight Summer Concert Series. All concerts are held at Furman Park and begin at 7 p.m. The Downey Patriot is the official media sponsor of the concert series.
