Elizabeth Faye Scott Young

Elizabeth Faye “Betty” Scott Young, formerly of Downey and Tustin, CA, died on December 17th, 2014, in Santa Ana, California, at the age of 80 as a result of complications from congestive heart failure. Betty was born in Alamosa, Colorado on November 20th, 1934 to John Herold Scott and Marie Margaret Sharp Scott. She graduated from Alamosa High School in 1952. Betty then attended Colorado University in Boulder and graduated with a BS in Nursing. She moved to Lynwood where she stayed with her aunt and uncle, Jay Francis Scott and Mildred Scott.  Betty would later be a nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Lynwood, CA. She completed her Master’s in nursing and was a school nurse for the Downey Unified School District.

Elizabeth Faye Scott met and married Alfred Laurence Young of Lynwood, CA in 1959, having met while square dancing. In earlier years, Al, Betty and the boys enjoyed camping with their tent trailer in the National Parks and traveling to visit relatives in Colorado, Minnesota and Georgia. In Betty’s later years, she enjoyed time baking, sewing, working on crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. She made doll clothes for several of her granddaughters.

Betty is survived by her sons Laurence Lee “Larry” Young and his wife, Deanna, of Aptos, California; son Walter Francis “Wally” Young, and his wife, Andrea, of Tustin, California; son Russell Alan Young, and his wife, Maria, of Cudahy, California. A sister Virginia Lee Scott McConnell and husband, Howard, of Fort Mill, South Carolina survives her. Her husband, Alfred, who passed away in 2010 and her older brother, John Scott who passed away in 2007, precede her in death. Five surviving grandchildren include Margaret “Maggie”, Jose, Melissa, Joshua and Carly and one great-granddaughter, Marylou.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 3rd, 2015 at 3:00PM at Saddleback Chapel (220 East Main, Tustin, CA 92780). In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions be sent to Epilepsy Foundation or your favorite charity.
