Downey's Lois Buchanan named California Woman of the Year
DOWNEY — Downey resident and civic leader Lois Buchanan has been named a California Woman of the Year.
Buchanan was chosen by Assemblymember Cristina Garcia to represent the state’s 58th Assembly District.
Buchanan serves with numerous volunteer organizations including the Downey Second Century Foundation, Downey Arts Coalition, Downey Coordinating Council, Downey Clergy Council, and the Assistance League of Downey.
With the Assistance League, she works with the Assisteens to deliver hand-knit blankets and prepared hygiene kits to patients at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. She has also coordinated city clean-ups to celebrate Keep America Beautiful Month.
She has been a Downey resident since 1963, and will celebrate her 60th wedding anniversary with her husband, Jim, on May 14.
