Downey’s budget wins second award

DOWNEY – The city of Downey has received a second award for its 2014-15 fiscal year budget. The California Society of Municipal Finance Officers (CSMFO) awarded Downey with its Excellence in Budgeting Award. It is the first time Downey has received the award.

In January, the city was honored with the Government Finance Officers Association’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.

The Excellence in Budgeting Award represents “significant accomplishment by a government and its leadership in meeting high standards and setting an example by encouraging others in their efforts to achieve and maintain an appropriate standard of excellence.”

“We are very pleased to have once again received an award that recognizes our city’s goal of ensuring fiscal responsibility,” said Mayor Luis Marquez. “This award proves that Downey takes every measure possible to make sure taxpayer dollars and public funds are spent wisely.”

“Our city prides itself in having a properly designed budget that ensures the delivery of essential services to our community,” added Mayor Pro Tem Alex Saab. “This award represents another significant achievement for Downey and I commend our council and city’s management team for their hard work.”
