Downey’s Bethel 244 empowers young women through service and community events
Bethel 244, a local chapter of Job’s Daughters International, is making an impact in Downey by fostering leadership and community involvement among young women aged 8 to 19.
The group, which meets on the second and fourth Saturdays each month, currently includes youth members Aurora, Kayla, and Linda, known as “Daughters.” Together, they build friendships and develop leadership skills through a variety of engaging activities.
Recently, Bethel 244 participated in a gift card drive to benefit Ticket to Dream, a nonprofit dedicated to helping foster youth access resources that can help them lead more fulfilling lives. Through a collaborative effort with other local chapters, or “Bethels,” Bethel 244 raised over $800 to support this cause.
The group has also been actively engaging with the community through events such as the Downey Night Market on Downey Avenue, where members hand out flyers promoting upcoming activities and share small prizes with market visitors. Bethel 244 also hosted a booth at the recent Downey Street Faire, where members shared information about their organization. Adding to the excitement, Jo Bee, the state mascot, made a special appearance, delighting both the Daughters and fair attendees.
Bethel 244 continues to welcome young women in the area to join their mission of learning, leadership, and community service.
