Downey's ASPIRE program competes in teen challenge

DOWNEY – The city of Downey’s ASPIRE after-school program participated in the sixth annual Teen Adventure Challenge held March 21 at Hansen Dam Aquatic Center in Lake View Terrace. Downey sent two teams each from Griffiths, Sussman and Stauffer middle schools.

Each team participated in a series of team-building activities such as brain teasers, rock wall climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, and other challenges.

“Although Downey ASPIRE was unable to win their fourth consecutive first place, they exemplified their positive spirit and team camaraderie that make Downey ASPIRE and its students great,” city officials said.

“Through these challenges, ASPIRE’s six teams demonstrated patience, trust, determination and many other character traits that Downey ASPIRE prides itself on.”
