Downey, Warren football schedules announced
DOWNEY – The Downey High School football season will unofficially begin when the Vikings host Orange Lutheran in a scrimmage at 5 p.m. on August 10.
The football season officially begins a week later, on August 17, when the Vikings travel to Trabuco Hills to take on Santa Margarita. Downey will then host Hart on August 24 in week 2 and will host Kapolei of Hawaii on August 31 in week three.
Downey then travels to San Pedro on September 7 in week four and to Alemany of Mission Hills on September 14 in week five.
The Vikings then conclude their preseason schedule, observe their bye week and prepare for the start of league play.
Downey will begin league play when they travel to Paramount to play the Pirates on September 28 in their sixth game, host Dominguez on October 5, and travel to Lynwood to play the Knights on October 12.
The Vikings host cross-town rival Warren on October 19 before hosting Gahr on October 25 in their tenth and final regular season game.
The C.I.F. Division 4 playoffs begin on November 2 after the regular season concludes.
The Vikings finished last season with an overall record of 11-3 and a San Gabriel Valley League record of 4-1. Downey finished second in league play last season behind league champion Paramount (5-0). Downey was defeated by Cajon of San Bernardino at Downey, 54-28, in the C.I.F. Division 4 championship game.

WARREN FOOTBALL: The Warren High School football team will begin their 2018 season on August 24 when they host St. Anthony’s of Long Beach.
The Bears will then host Huntington Park at Warren on August 31 in their second game and travel to Culver City on September 7 for their third game.
Warren hosts Mayfair on September 14 and then hosts La Serna on September 21. Warren’s preseason schedule will conclude at the end of the La Serna game.
Warren begins league play when they travel to Lynwood to play the Knights on September 28. They then travel to Paramount to play the Pirates on October 5 before hosting Gahr on October 12.
The Bears travel to cross-town rival Downey on October 19 and host Dominguez on October 25 in their final regular season game. The C.I.F. Division 7 playoffs will begin on November 2 after the league and regular season concludes.
The Bears finished last season with an overall record of 6-4 and a San Gabriel Valley League record of 2-3. Warren finished fourth in league play behind league champion Paramount (5-0), Downey (4-1) and Gahr (3-2), respectively. The Bears did not qualify for postseason play.

PIUS-MATTHIAS: The St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy football team kicks off its 2018 season on Saturday, August 25, when they travel to the Webb Schools of Claremont.
The Warriors then travel to Bishop Montgomery of Torrance on August 31 before hosting Montclair on September 7.
The Warriors host Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary of Montebello on September 14 and host Trinity Classical Academy of Valencia on September 21. SPX-SMA then travels to the Carnegie Schools-Riverside on September 28 before returning home to host Stellar Prep of Oakland on October 5.
SPX-SMA will then begin Santa Fe League play. The Warriors travel to Verbum Dei of Los Angeles on October 13, host Bosco Tech on October 19, and travel to St. Bernard of Playa del Rey on October 26 in their regular season finale.
The Warriors finished last season with an overall record of 3-7 and were 0-3 in Academy League play. The Warriors did not qualify for postseason play a year ago.
This year SPX-SMA will still be competing in Division 13 but have changed to the Santa Fe League with Bosco Tech, St. Bernard and Verbum Dei.

CALVARY CHAPEL: The Downey Calvary Chapel football team begins its 2018 football season on Saturday, August 25, when they host Lighthouse Christian of Santa Monica.
The Grizzlies currently have 18 rostered players and compete in the 8-Man Division of C.I.F. DCC is scheduled to play eight regular season games and do not have their second game scheduled until September 15 when they travel to Julian.
The Grizzlies travel to Brethren Christian of Huntington Beach on September 21 and travel to St. Michael’s Prep of Silverado on September 27. DCC then hosts Lutheran of La Verne on October 6.
The Grizzlies host Rolling Hills Prep of San Pedro on October 13, host Avalon of Catalina Island in on October 20 and travel to Sage Hill of Newport Beach on October 27 in their eighth and final regular season game.
DCC finished last season with an overall record of 4-4 and qualified for postseason play. The Grizzlies were defeated by eventual champion Faith Baptist of Canoga Park, 58-6, in the first round of the C.I.F. 8-man Division 1 playoffs.
