DOWNEY — Downey added 15 new coronavirus cases overnight, bringing the city’s total to 170, according to figures released by L.A. County on Thursday.

Thursday also saw the pandemic hit a critical milestone: with an average of 44 deaths per day, Covid-19 has become the leading cause of death in L.A. County, surpassing heart disease.

“So many in LA County are mourning people who have passed away from Covid-19. We are deeply sorry for your loss, and you are in our thoughts and prayers every day,” said Barbara Ferrer, director of public health.

With warm temperatures expected this weekend, health officials are reminding residents to stay home and keep hydrated.
