Downey Police searching for missing 75-year-old woman with dementia

DOWNEY — Authorities are asking for the public’s help in locating 75-year-old Carmen Bird, who was reported missing from her Downey home on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Downey Police Department, Bird was last seen around 4 p.m. on March 20 at her residence on the 12300 block of Marbel Avenue. Her husband told investigators she was speaking with him before he briefly left the room. When he returned, she was gone.

Bird suffers from dementia and takes medication daily, but officials said she did not take her medication with her. She has no known destination, but police say she has a history of leaving the home without informing her husband.

Bird is described as a Hispanic female, 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 140 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweater over a purple sweatshirt, along with blue jeans.

While detectives are actively following up on several tips from community members, Bird remains missing as of Friday afternoon.

Bird’s family is deeply concerned for her safety and is urging anyone who may have seen her to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Downey Police Department at (562) 861-0771, or reach out directly to Detective Roberts at (562) 904-2386 or eroberts@downeyca.org.
