Downey native in OC musical
HUNTINGTON BEACH - "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change," the second longest off-Broadway musical in the history of theater, is currently in performance at the Huntington Beach Playhouse, where Melissa Greilach, a Downey native, shares the ensemble lead.Greilach is a 2003 graduate of Warren High School, where her interest in musical theater began to develop. Following academic and theater study at Cypress College, she completed a 2-year program at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City, before returning to the Southland. Set as a series of vignettes with a revolving cast of six characters, "I Love You…" chronicles male-female relationships from dating through old age. Some of the song titles include "A Stud and a Babe," "Single Man Drought," "Why? 'Cause I'm a Guy!," "He Called Me," "Always a Bridesmaid," "The Marriage Tango," "The Baby Song" and "I Can Live With That." The ensemble cast shares solo, duet and full chorus honors and is accompanied by piano and solo violin, as in the original production. Performances are Wednesday, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m., through Sept. 6. Tickets are $18-$20.
