Downey musician hired to tour with Jonas Brothers
DOWNEY — Warren High graduate Fabian Chavez is currently on tour with the Jonas Brothers, with a return performance slated in just a few weeks.
The world tour kicked off in August in New York and will continue into early December. After a brief hiatus, the show picks up again overseas, spanning New Zealand, Australia, and Europe.
A multi-instrumentalist, Chavez, 30, has steadily continued to build a name for himself in the music industry. He was tapped to play saxophone for the Jonas Brothers on the strength of his reputation and on the recommendation of one of the band’s existing members, whom Chavez had played with recently at a gig in Los Angeles.
“He texted me a few days later and said, ‘Hey man, I’m actually the piano player of the Jonas Brothers, would you want to go on tour with the Jonas Brothers. Are you interested in that at all?’ I was like ‘What? Oh my God,’” said Chavez. “I think it was that in combination of my name had been thrown around in the hat for the sax position.”
He is no stranger to touring having toured with indie-pop band Saint Motel previously.
Chavez says things came full circle, however, a few weeks ago.
“We actually did Dodger Stadium a month ago, a couple of weeks ago, something like that. That one, for me, was really really big; that was a full circle moment,” said Chavez. “Obviously, I was raised in Downey and LA, this is like my home. We’re going to Dodger Stadium, I've been there so many times, but to play a concert there was really like, ‘Oh man, this is amazing’ you know? It was a whole thing.
“We did Yankee Stadium, Wrigley, but playing Dodger Stadium was a beautiful moment that I’ll honestly never forget.”
The Jonas Brothers World Tour will return to the area at the end of the month, playing at the Honda Center on Oct. 29.
