Downey man gets 6 years in prison for robbing fruit vendors

A 26-year-old Downey man was sentenced last week to six years in state prison for robbing fruit vendors over a span of five months, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.

At last Wednesday's court appearance, Miguel Rodriguez pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree robbery.

He also admitted that he was previously convicted of second-degree robbery in 2007.

A restitution hearing is scheduled for July 5 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Long Beach Branch.

Deputy District Attorney Simone Shay, who prosecuted the case, said Rodriguez robbed three separate fruit vendors on Sept. 11, 2016, Jan. 17, 2017 and Feb. 2, 2017, in the 6900 block of Paramount Boulevard in Long Beach.

On Feb. 14, Rodriguez was arrested in connection with the muggings.

The case was investigated by the Long Beach Police Department.
