Downey man charged in death of 6-year-old boy

DOWNEY — A 23-year-old Downey man was arrested and charged with murder after the death of a 6-year-old boy Thursday.

Police said the boy was taken to St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach on Thursday evening with life-threatening injuries.

The boy died the same day. His death was ruled a homicide by the L.A. County Coronor’s office.

Police arrested Tyler D’Shaun Martin-Brand and booked him for murder. He was described as an acquaintance of the child’s mother.

“This case is a serious and complex investigation and investigators are still in the process of gathering information, interviewing witnesses and processing evidence,” police said in a statement. “As a result, no other details will be released at this time.”
