Downey hosting Los Angeles’ only rocket festival Saturday

DOWNEY - Downey will play host to Los Angeles’ only urban rocket festival -- Rocket Fever -- this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Columbia Memorial Space Center.

Sponsored by Financial Partners Credit Union, the free event features a variety of rocket-related activities, including water rockets, stomp rockets, balloon rockets, and straw rockets.

Rockets are free but are limited in supply.

The space center is also offering specialized rocket-building classes for $7. All other activities are free.

Rocket Fever also will feature entertainment, food trucks and a space shuttle jumper for kids.

Partnering organizations include Aerojet Rocketdyne, Virgin Orbit, Southern California Rocket Association, Orange County Rocket Society, Discount Rocketry and the Downey Amateur Radio Club.

The Columbia Memorial Space Center is located at 12400 Columbia Way.
