Downey Dia de los Muertos set to return Oct. 29

DOWNEY – The City of Downey and the Downey Theatre have scheduled the ninth annual Downey Dia de Los Muertos Art Festival for Saturday, Oct. 29, from 11 am to 8 pm in and around the Downey Theatre and the Downtown Civic Center, at Firestone and Brookshire.

Generally acknowledged as one of the Southland’s most outstanding Dia de Los Muertos events, in 2021 the festival was officially honored by the State of California for contributions to local art, music, and dance, and for the local business community’s involvement.

The 2022 Festival entertainment lineup includes three stages with continuous live, professional entertainment, multiple art exhibits, altar presentations, food trucks and carts, dancing, beer and wine in the zocalo, interactive and participatory attractions, children’s story time in the adjacent Main Library, and over 35 vendors selling Dia de Los Muertos themed merchandise.

The event is free. Attendance is expected to be over 30,000.
