Downey Crime Report, March 2018

Friday, March 9:
At 4:30 p.m., officers located a stolen vehicle in the Walmart parking lot at the Promenade. The driver was arrested for grand theft auto.

At 7 p.m., a resident returned to her home in the 9700 block of Stamps Rd. and found three suspects inside her residence. The suspects fled the location in a dark colored vehicle with valuables taken from inside the residence. Detectives are investigating.

Saturday, March 10:
At 12:30 a.m., a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred in the 12800 block of Blodgett Ave earlier in the week, turned himself in at the police station. No one was injured during this incident. The suspect was booked for assault with a deadly weapon.

Sunday, March 11:
At 11 p.m., a suspect shot a handgun into the air, while standing in the parking lot of Gloria’s Restaurant. No one was injured and the suspect fled the location in a white colored vehicle. Detectives are investigating.

At 11:30 p.m., officers arrested a male suspect who had broken into an apartment in the 10300 block of Western Ave. The suspect had forced open the front door and ransacked the living room. When the tenants awoke and confronted the suspect, he attempted to assault them. Neighbors chased the suspect from the location and detained him until officers arrived. The suspect was arrested for burglary.

Saturday, March 17:
At 9 p.m. a hit and run traffic collision occurred at the intersection of Bellflower Blvd. and Washburn Rd. One driver was seriously injured and transported to a local hospital. Officers located the other driver at his residence in the City of Norwalk and arrested him for DUI. He faces additional charges including felony hit and run.

Sunday, March 18:
Officers located a stolen vehicle at Imperial Hwy and Paramount Blvd. The driver was arrested for grand theft auto.

Numerous members of the Downey Police Department competed in the annual Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Law Enforcement Relay Race. 288 teams from as far away as Canada and New York competed in this event. This year’s team finished the race in 17 hours, 48 minutes.
