DOWNEY — Downey Councilwoman Catherine Alvarez announced that she and members of her family, including her husband, are infected with Covid-19.

Alvarez made the announcement on her personal Facebook page Sunday, urging residents to take care while also asking for prayers.

“Covid has knocked on the doors of my home, from all the members of the family, my husband is the one who is taking it the hardest since he was admitted to the hospital today because his oxygen is very low and he was already having complications,” Alvarez wrote.

It is not known how severe Alvarez’s symptoms are but she did not participate in Tuesday’s council meeting.

“This message is for all those who may not believe;” Alvarez continued in her statement. “I ask you not to wait for this bug [to] touch your homes, take care of yourself, love each other and live day by day as if it were your last, life is short to live it angry, bitter, tied to so much unhappiness…”

“COVID-19 is not something that will be erased overnight, it is here to stay for a long time even if we don't want to accept it; and that is why I ask you to become aware and that we get united more than ever, this passage of life is a trial is a period to have our main objective to carry it out in the family and in society.

“I ask you to pray, for a speedy recovery for my family since we are all infected.”
