Downey considers $4.5 million plan to repave streets

DOWNEY – Nearly 12 miles of residential streets would be repaved under a $4.5 million proposal being considered by the City Council.

Under the plan, 88 residential street segments would be rehabilitated, extending their lives by 20 years.

Streets were chosen because they are either in a state of minor deterioration and can be repaired inexpensively or have deteriorated to a state of total disrepair.

Fixing the roads will cost about $4.5 million, funded by Measure R bond revenue.

Assuming the City Council approves the plan Tuesday, construction is expected to begin in February 2022 and last through June.
