Downey church helping feed 500 families every month

DOWNEY – A local church and nonprofit organization are working together to feed hundreds of families in need every month.

The weekly distribution is a partnership between Fresh Anointing Church of God and nonprofit Ministry by Inspirational Women Inc. It takes place in the church parking lot, located at 9020 Imperial Highway.

According to Tracy Allen, President of Ministry, the distribution has been taking place every Tuesday for around four months.

“We’re feeding so many families a month…We’ve been servicing hundreds of families every Tuesday from 12 to 3 pm,” said Allen. “It’s not just food…We’re going to put masks in the bag, we have diapers for babies, we have formula, we have milk, it’s not just food. We also have free clothing and shoes.”

It is estimated that an average of 500 to 550 families have been helped each month.

Recipients are community members, though not necessarily attached to the church. While no registration is required ahead of time, they are asked to sign in and give some information.
