Downey adds 5 coronavirus cases overnight, now at 89
DOWNEY — L.A. County Health Department officials announced 425 new coronavirus cases Thursday, including five in Downey, bringing the city’s total number of known of Covid-19 cases to 89.
Officials also announced 25 new deaths; the death toll in L.A. County now stands at 223.
As of today, there are 7,955 known Covid-19 infections across all areas of L.A. County.
"Today’s heartbreaking announcement of additional deaths related to COVID-19 is a reminder of the seriousness of the situation we are in as a community, and we extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones who have experienced these tragic losses,” said Barbara Ferrer, Director of Public Health.
“Although our case numbers continue to rise along with the number of people who have died, the effectiveness of our collective effort to slow the spread are apparent. These actions, although immensely disruptive as they are, are very powerful in helping to prevent infections, and we need to keep up this difficult work to slow the spread of COVID-19 for the next few weeks.”
