Deadline approaches in Roybal-Allard's student art competition
DOWNEY — The deadline for Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard’s annual student art competition is Thursday, Feb. 7, at 5 p.m.
The competition is open to students in grades 9-12 who reside in the 40th Congressional District, which includes Downey and neighboring cities.
The winning entry will be on display in the U.S. Capitol for one year as part of the Artistic Discovery Congressional Art Competition for high school students. The winning student will also be awarded a $1,000 scholarship, a gift certificate for art supplies, and travel arrangements for two to attend the opening of the national exhibit in Washington, D.C.
Awards will also be presented to other top entries.
Winners will be announced later this year at the Citadel during an awards program held in conjunction with the closing ceremony for a local exhibit of the competition entries.
Artwork must be two-dimensional, no larger than 22 inches by 22 inches, and no smaller than 8 inches by 10 inches. A submission must be an original concept; it cannot be a reproduction, nor inspired by an existing photo, painting, graphic, advertisement or any work by another person.
