Crime Report: March 20, 2025

■ On March 6 at 5 am, officers responded to a vehicle burglary in progress. Officers located the suspects in a white Infiniti. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, however, the vehicle fled, and a vehicle pursuit was initiated. The vehicle pursuit was ultimately aborted because the suspects’ driving posed a threat to public safety.

■ On March 8 at 3:30 pm, officers responded to the area of Stewart & Gray Rd. and Old River School Rd. to assist South Gate PD officers with a traffic stop on a wanted vehicle. Downey PD K-9 Rex was requested and responded to assist. K-9 Rex’s presence at the traffic stop helped ensure all suspects complied with officers. All suspects were safely taken into custody without incident.

■ On March 9 at 11 am, officers responded to the 13200 block of Woodruff Ave. regarding two male adults suffering from a suspected drug overdose. Officers promptly arrived and administered Narcan and medical aid. Downey Fire Department ultimately responded and took over medical care. Both males recovered and were transported to local hospitals for further medical aid.

■ On March 10 at 01:50 am, officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 9000 block of Imperial Hwy. Officers located shell casings in the area, however, they were unable to locate a victim or suspect. Detectives are investigating the incident.

■ On March 13 at 2:55 am, an officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle commit a traffic infraction. Further investigation revealed the vehicle was reported stolen to the Vernon Police Department. A high-risk traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was taken into custody without incident.

■ On March 15 at 8:45 pm, officers responded to the 9400 block of Firestone Blvd. regarding a disturbance. A private tow truck driver was performing a tow when he was approached by an unknown male suspect. The suspect demanded the driver’s keys. The driver attempted to avoid the suspect, who became increasingly aggressive and ultimately assaulted the driver. Officers responded and located the suspect, a local transient who was taken into custody without incident.

■ On March 16 at 7:30 pm, officers responded to Golden Park regarding reports of shots fired. Officers promptly responded and located evidence of a shooting, however, they were unable to locate a victim or suspect. Officers spoke with several witnesses and canvassed the area for surveillance video. Detectives are currently investigating the incident.

■ On March 17 at 9 pm, officers responded to the 7300 block of Florence Ave. regarding a robbery. A suspect entered a local business and took alcohol without paying for it. The suspect was confronted by the store owner outside the business. The suspect threatened to stab the store owner, who retreated back into the store. The suspect fled the scene and was located a short distance away by officers. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
